What is Pilates?

In our Templestowe Studio, Pilates is a challenging, low impact, total body workout that focuses on strengthening the core and elongating rather than bulking muscles. Pilates is a resistance-based exercise that uses tension springs to strengthen and stretch, allowing the body to develop a long, strong, lean form.

Pilates is ageless and genderless. Anyone can benefit from Pilates: the athlete, the office worker, those with physical challenges or injuries, the flexible and inflexible, the dancer, the boxer, the expecting mother, and the teenager. With hundreds of exercises Pilates will push you further than you ever thought your body could go.

So, Pilates is for men too?

Yes, Pilates was originally developed in the early 20th century by a boxer and gymnast named Joseph Pilates. In fact, the method was created to train athletes and recovering soldiers.

Pilates will complement your existing workouts whether they are running, biking, or weight-lifting, and improve your posture and muscle structure, making you quicker, leaner, stronger, and your workouts outside of our studio more explosive.

Adeline Dickson

Studio Instructor

Adeline started her career as a hairstylist working amongst well Renaud salons in Melbourne. Long days standing and no energy for exercise at the end of a working day. Later pursued her passion for health and fitness. Started her Personal Training certificate and fell in love with helping people reach their happiest healthiest version of themselves.  She has experience in a traditional gym environment and discovered Pilates. She was always thinking and trying new exercises and thought how can she give more to her clients, what can she add to her service and how can she improve there results.

Ruth Cowan

Studio Instructor

For Ruth, teaching is more than a job - having trained as a Stott Pilates instructor for 5 years, its something she loves to do everyday. Helping people build strength and improve their general well-being whilst having fun!

Sarah Haberfield

Studio Instructor

Sarah has practiced Pilates since the age of 14 as rehabilitation from major spinal surgery, and continued to practice for the love of it. She has watched Pilates change the shape of her own body, and more importantly the way she moved both in and out of the studio. Sarah is passionate about helping people to gain strength, flexibility and an understanding of their bodies.

Sarah has been teaching Pilates for one and half years in private, small group and large group settings. She has also trained through Breathe and is currently working towards my diploma qualification with Polestar.

Michelle McGuire

Studio Instructor

Michelle was a keen martial artist in her younger years, and this background has complimented her Pilates experience and knowledge.  Michelle started Pilates to try and get her body into shape after having her son and fell in love with it. Michelle has completed Peak Pilates Classical Matwork 1.

Kimberly Hansen

Studio Instructor

Kimberley has been doing Pilates for over seven years and asnan instructor for three years. She was initially introduced to the beautiful practice of Pilates by her Physio to assist with lower back pain she was experiencing as a result of pregnancy. As soon as she saw and felt the positive benefits, especially during post-partum, she was hooked. She feels a real duty of care to spread the word to others as she wished someone introduced her to Pilates earlier. She has completed a Basic Mat Instructor course with Simply Pilates who are the Australian affiliate of Peak Pilates.
